DescriptionApollo 8 and Apollo 11 Manned Flight Awareness Medals Containing Flown Metal, Directly from the Personal Collection of James Lovell, with Signed LOAs. The MFA program was instituted at NASA after Gemini as a method to instill a strong sense of quality and flight safety in its employees and those of its contractors by various motivational methods and awards. These medals were part of that emphasis and are very collectible, especially coming from the collection of an astronaut so closely associated with both these missions.
Apollo 8: The first of these medals issued, contains metal that flew to the moon and back, 1.5" in diameter. Lovell was, of course, Command Module Pilot on this first manned mission to the moon.
Apollo 11: The second issued, contains metal from both Columbia and Eagle, 1.25" in diameter. Lovell was Backup Commander on this mission.
Included with this lot are two separate signed Letters of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating in part that these are from his personal collection of space artifacts and have been in his possession since the missions.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
