Description

Apollo 17 Lunar Module Flown LM Ascent Chart Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan, Signed and Certified, with Signed COA. An 8" x 10.5" single-sided lunar map printed on heavy slick paper, captioned at bottom: "Landing Site December 6, 1972 Printed 10-14-72". The scale of 1:25,000 is noted at the top. There is a printed diagram superimposed over the map and several craters are named, including Camelot, Cochise, Henry, Shakespeare, and Sherlock. Cernan has boldly signed: "Ascent Chart-/ Flown to/ Moon on/ Apollo XVII/ Gene Cernan". This chart spent three days on the moon. Light tape residue at top verso. Overall excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.

Included with this lot is a Cernan-signed Certificate of Authenticity from Novaspace stating, in full: "I certify that this ascent chart was used on the LM Challenger as we departed the moon on the last flight of Apollo, Apollo XVII on December 14, 1972. It had been on loan to a museum and recently gathered and presented to Novaspace Galleries for dispersal to collectors of artifacts from the great 'space race' and the golden age of space exploration."
