    NGC-Certified "Ex. Jack R. Lousma"

Apollo 17 Flown MS64 NGC Silver Robbins Medallion Originally from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Jack Lousma, Serial Number F50, with Handwritten LOA. This 35mm sterling silver medal was one of only eighty flown aboard Apollo 17, December 7-19, 1972, with crewmembers Gene Cernan, Ron Evans, and Harrison Schmitt. The obverse features the mission insignia depicting the head of the Greek god Apollo, a U.S. flag and eagle, the moon, and the surnames of crewmembers. The mission dates are engraved on the reverse with the phrase "The Beginning". The serial number and sterling and Robbins hallmarks are on the rim. This is the rarest of all Apollo silver Robbins medallions. A Choice Uncirculated example.

Included in this lot is a handwritten and signed Letter of Certification on Lousma's letterhead stating, in full:

"I hereby certify that silver Apollo 17 Robbins Medal, Serial Number F50, is one that was flown aboard the mission December 7-19, 1972.

"Gene Cernan owned a house trailer that was kept at my home, so we both used it. I was also a USN Postgraduate School classmate of Ron Evans and shared an astronaut office Jack Schmitt for several years.

"During the Apollo 17 mission, I was training for a two-month, record endurance mission aboard the Skylab Space Station that would launch about seven months later. As a member of the Astronaut Office during the mission, I was permitted to purchase this Apollo 17 flown medallion.

"This medallion is from my personal collection and has been in my possession since receiving it just after the mission. [signed] Jack Lousma/ Jack Lousma/ Skylab II (SL-3) Pilot/ STS-3 Commander"
