Description

Apollo 16 Flown Toothbrush with Original Pouch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander John Young. An orange, translucent "Oral B-40" toothbrush, 6.125" long, and still in the 8" x 2.5" plastic pouch in which it flew. The pouch has a flap with a snap closure and there is a piece of Velcro on the back for ease of storage. This was Young's personal toothbrush on man's fifth moon-landing mission, April 16-27, 1972. Excellent condition with some light soiling to the pouch.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from John Young stating: "I hereby certify that the translucent orange toothbrush, marked ORAL B-40, that accompanies this letter, was flown to the moon and used by me aboard Apollo 16 April 17-26, 1972. It has been part of my personal collection since the mission."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
