Fifteen Medalets that Traveled to the Moon on Apollo 16, Still Sealed as Flown.Apollo 16 Flown Mission Insignia Medalets (Fifteen) in Original Package Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander John Young, Certified and Signed. Each of these white metal charms with a color mission insignia is 18mm in diameter. All fifteen are sealed into an odd-shaped 3" x 3" (overall) plastic pouch in which they were carried aboard Apollo 16, April 16-27, 1972, with crewmembers Young, Mattingly, and Duke. Excellent condition.
Please be sure to view the previous lot (41130) for a matching group of Apollo 16 charms. It is absolutely amazing that, thirty-seven years after the mission, these medalets (and the following charms) are still in the sealed plastic package in which they flew to the moon in Young's PPK. It seems highly unlikely that there will be any other such untouched, unseparated groups of original flown memorabilia come to market. A rare offering to the astute space collector, worthy of the finest personal or institutional collections.
On the plastic pouch, John Young has written: "Flown. John Young".
