Ex. John Young
Apollo 16 Crew-Signed Insurance Cover Directly from the John W.
Young Collection, with Letter of Certification. The
crewmembers' signatures, "John Young", "Ken
Mattingly", and "Charlie Duke" are all in blue felt-tip
on this philatelic cover, featuring the "A Decade of Achievement"
U.S. 8¢ stamp. It bears a space pictorial cancellation on the day
of launch, April 16, 1972, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The color cachet features the Apollo 16 mission insignia with
Astronaut pins at lower left and right. Excellent.
Included with this lot is a Letter of Certification signed by Young's widow, Susy Young. It reads, in full: "I hereby certify that the Apollo 16 Crew Signed Insurance Cover that accompanies this letter is an original Insurance Cover that the crew signed while in quarters prior to the launch of Apollo 16. This Insurance Cover was a part of John W. Young's personal collection since the mission. The flag package is sealed with a holographic tamper-proof label, #1733288, to ensure authenticity, that will display a residual honeycomb design without number if removed."
