Apollo 15 Roll of SIMBAY Film, Master Direct Negative, Dated August 15. 1972. A 245mm film roll of direct negatives taken in panoramic form aboard the Scientific Instrument Module (SIM) Bay of Apollo 15. The label affixed at the top of the original canister reads: "Apollo 17, MAG Pan, Film type: 2420/ 2422, Part 13B of 85, Frames 9937 to 9982, Date AUG 15 1972, 3rd Gen, Direct Neg." Canister is 10" x 6". Each frame is approximately 48" long and 10" wide, making this an extremely long piece of film. One of the most dramatic moments of this, the last manned mission to the moon, was Ron Evans' deep space EVA to retrieve the original film from the Itek panoramic camera housed in the Command/Service Module SIM Bay. NASA used these large, high resolution panoramas to create and improve lunar maps. Very fine. Proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to SPACE 3.0, a 501c3 charitable foundation building an endowment to help preserve the history of spaceflight and empower space entrepreneurs and visionaries.
