Description

Apollo 15 Flown Scissors Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, with Signed LOA. Measuring approximately 8.25" in length, this stainless steel surgical cutting tool, manufactured by Weck, was used by Worden during Apollo 15, the fourth manned lunar landing mission. The part number "SDB42100059-202" and serial number "1029" are both printed on one side near a piece of Velcro; the "Weck U.S.A. Stainless" manufacturer's mark is engraved on the other. The scissors were used by the crewmembers for various purposes including the very important task of opening their plastic food pouches. They were located in a pocket strapped onto one of the legs of their Pressure Garment Assembly at launch and then transferred to the leg of their in-flight coverall garment once in space. The Velcro was to facilitate attachment and stowage. A rare chance to own a piece of precision equipment that flew to the moon. These scissors are in good working order, sharp with good spring tension, in excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I certify that the Weck U.S.A. Stainless medical scissors, numbered SDB42100059-202 with SN 1029, was flown as part of my personal equipment on Apollo 15. It is from my personal collection and has been in my possession since the flight in 1971."

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
