DescriptionApollo 15 Flown National Flag of Czechoslovakia Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 6.125" x 3.875" cloth Czechoslovak flag that was carried to the moon on Apollo 15, July 26-August 7, 1971, with crewmembers Scott, Irwin, and Worden. When Czechoslovakia was dissolved in 1993, the Czech Republic kept this same flag design, originally adopted in 1920; Slovakia adopted a totally different design. Worden has signed on the white stripe: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15 Al Worden CMP". The flag is actually shown upside-down as the white stripe should be at top. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that this flag from Czechoslovakia included with this letter went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'. It remained in the command module during the lunar orbit phase of the flight."
