DescriptionApollo 15 Flown Flag of the Republic of Upper Volta Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Al Worden, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 5.875" x 4.125" cloth flag carried to the moon on Apollo 15, July 26-August 7, 1971. This flag design was adopted in 1959, a horizontal tri-color of black, white, and red. In 1984 Upper Volta became Burkina Faso and the flag design was changed. Worden has signed on the lower red stripe: "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15 Al Worden CMP". Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his letterhead, stating (in part): "I hereby certify that this flag from Upper Volta included with this letter went to the moon aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'ENDEAVOUR'. It remained in the command module during the lunar orbit phase of the flight."
