    Description

Apollo 15 Flown 14K Gold Mission Insignia Medallion Presented by Dave Scott, with Original Certificate of Authenticity. A 25mm gold medal with an attached ring for wear on a bracelet or neck chain; the Apollo 15 mission insignia is in colored enamel on the obverse. On the reverse is engraved "#1/ This Went to the Moon on Apollo 15/ Dave Scott [signature in engraved facsimile] CDR A/15" above the "14K" gold hallmark. Included is an 8.5" x 11" certificate reading: "The Medallion represented above was flown to the surface of [sic] the Moon on Apollo 15. July 26, 1971- Liftoff: July 30- Moon Landing: August 7, 1971- Splashdown. Each Medallion was Numbered serially. Number 1 has been presented to Chuck Graham". The three crew signatures below are printed facsimiles. Research by the owner in consultation with Dave Scott has indicated that it did fly, but not to the surface of the moon. Still, a stunning piece of jewelry in a precious metal that was carried to the moon. A very desirable piece. Excellent.

Charles "Chuck" Graham served as a pilot during WWII and afterwards became a test pilot for North American Aviation, an early member of the "Mach Breakers Club". He would later become the Executive Director of Customer Relations for North American (later Rockwell) and was well-known and respected among the astronauts.

Included with the lot is a signed letter from space expert Matthew T. Polomik. It reads, in full: "Recent information indicates that this Apollo 15 LM Flown Gold Medallion, Serial #1, was one of only six that flew aboard the command module 'Endeavour'. It was originally intended to go to the lunar surface aboard the lunar module 'Falcon', but due to severe landing weight restrictions placed on the lunar module, it remained in orbit aboard the command module."

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
