DescriptionApollo 14 Flown State Flag of California Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. Offered here is a 6" x 4" cloth California flag that was carried aboard Apollo 14 on its mission to the moon in 1971. Aboard the command module, this item spent two days and more than eighteen hours in lunar orbit. Very fine condition with a bit of light staining in the white field at right.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Edgar Mitchell" on his personal letterhead stating: "This letter is to certify that the accompanying 'State of California' Flag (4" x 6"), was carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands January 31 to February 9, 1971. It was in lunar orbit for 67 hours. This flag has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic period."
