DescriptionApollo 14 Flown National Flag of Uruguay Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 6.125" x 4" Uruguayan Pabellón flag that was flown to the moon aboard Apollo 14, January 31-February 9, 1971. The design for this flag, actually one of three official national banners, was adopted in 1830 and consists of nine alternating blue and white stripes; the white canton features a gold Sun of May device. Dr. Mitchell has signed the flag on the lower two white stripes: "Flown to the moon on Apollo 14/ Edgar Mitchell". Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This letter certifies that the accompanying 4" x 6" flag of Uruguay was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) from January 31 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission..."
