The first space-flown Minnesota flag we have offered.Apollo 14 Flown Minnesota State Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed, with Signed LOA. This 6" x 4" Minnesota flag flew to the moon aboard the third successful moon landing expedition with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell, January 31-February 9, 1971. The flag design consists of the state seal with a ribbon containing "L'étoile du Nord" (North Star) against a blue background. Dr. Mitchell has signed this flag in the lower right corner: "Edgar Mitchell/ Apollo 14/ LMP". This is the first space-flown Minnesota flag Heritage has had the privilege to offer. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This document certifies that the accompanying miniature (4 x 6 inches) Minnesota Flag signed 'Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot' was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) during the Apollo 14 mission aboard Kittyhawk."
