DescriptionApollo 14 Flown Michigan State Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed, with Signed LOA. This 6" x 4" Michigan flag flew to the moon aboard Apollo 14, January 31-February 9, 1971, with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Ed Mitchell. The flag design consists of the state's coat of arms on a blue field with three Latin phrases: "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of many, one); "Tuebor" (I will defend); and "Si Quæris Peninsulam Amœnam Circumspice" (If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you). Dr. Mitchell has signed this flag in the lower right corner: "Edgar Mitchell/ Apollo 14/ LMP". This is the only the second flown Michigan flag Heritage has offered. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This document certifies that the accompanying miniature (4 x 6 inches) Michigan Flag signed 'Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot' was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) during the Apollo 14 mission aboard Kittyhawk."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.View More Testimonials
