    Description

Apollo 14 Flown Hawaii State Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. This 5.625" x 4" Hawaiian flag was aboard Apollo 14 on its trip to the moon, January 31-February 9, 1971, the third U.S. lunar landing mission. The design of the Hawaiian flag is unique among U.S. state flags in that the canton contains the Union Jack of the United Kingdom. The field consists of eight horizontal stripes of red, white, and blue representing the eight major islands. Dr. Mitchell has signed on the lower white stripe: "Flown to the moon aboard Kittyhawk/ on Apollo 14 Edgar Mitchell LMP". Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on his personal letterhead stating, in part: "This document certifies that the accompanying 4" x 6" flag of Hawaii was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) aboard Kittyhawk from January 31, 1971 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission. The flag bears the inscription 'Flown to the moon aboard Kittyhawk on Apollo 14' and is signed 'Edgar Mitchell LMP'. This flag has been in my personal collection since the mission."
