DescriptionApollo 14 Flown Connecticut State Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, with Signed LOA. This 6" x 4" Connecticut flag flew to the moon aboard Apollo 14, January 31-February 9, 1971, with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Ed Mitchell. The flag's design consists of a white shield with three grapevines on a field of azure blue. The banner beneath the shield bears the state motto: "Qui Transtulit Sustinet" ("He who transplanted still sustains"). This is the first flown Connecticut flag Heritage has offered. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity on his personal letterhead stating, in part: "This document certifies that the accompanying 4" x 6" flag of the State of Connecticut was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) aboard Kittyhawk from January 31, 1971 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission, and has been in my personal collection since then."
