DescriptionApollo 14 Flown American Flag Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. This 6.25" x 4" silk U.S. flag was carried aboard Apollo 14, the third successful moon landing mission, with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell, and Stuart Roosa, January 31-February 9, 1971. Dr. Mitchell has certified this flag on the bottom white stripe: "Flown to the moo[n] on Apollo 14 Edgar Mitchell". Excellent.
Included in this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Mitchell on his personal letterhead. It reads, in full: "This letter is to certify that the accompanying United States of America Flag (4" x 6") was carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands January 31 to February 9, 1971. It was in lunar orbit for 67 hours. This flag has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic period."
