DescriptionApollo 14 Flown American Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified. This 6.25" x 4" silk U.S. flag was carried aboard Apollo 14, the third successful moon landing mission, with crewmembers Shepard, Mitchell, and Roosa, January 31-February 9, 1971. Dr. Mitchell has certified this flag on the bottom white stripe: "Flown to the moo[n] on Apollo 14 Edgar Mitchell". It remained in the Command Module Kitty Hawk while the Lunar Module Antares was on the lunar surface. Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Edgar Mitchell" on his personal letterhead stating: "This letter is to certify that the accompanying United States of America Flag (4" x 6") was carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands January 31 to February 9, 1971. It was in lunar orbit for 67 hours. This flag has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic period."
