Description

Presented by Apollo 14 Commander Alan Shepard to his Backup CMP Ron Evans.

Apollo 14 Flown American Flag and Mission Patch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Backup Command Module Pilot Ron Evans. A 5.5" x 5" U.S. flag and a 4.625" x 4.25" embroidered mission insignia patch mounted with a photo of the Command Module Kitty Hawk and framed to an overall 24.5" x 20.5". Alan Shepard (1923-1998) has written on the mat board beneath the photo: "To Ron Evans- with my sincere appreciation for the tremendous job and the hard work that helped this mission to success- Alan Shepard". Also written, beneath the patch, is "Flag and insignia carried to the moon on board Apollo 14 1/31 to 2/9/71". An attractive display piece associating two Apollo moon travelers. The writing is slightly faded, otherwise excellent condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
