A Lone Star Flag that Orbited the Moon.Apollo 14 Command Module Flown State Flag of Texas from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. Offered here is a 5.75" x 4.25" cloth Texas flag that was carried aboard Apollo 14 on its mission to the moon in 1971. This flag stayed in the orbiting Command Module Kitty Hawk with Stuart Roosa while Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell took the Lunar Module Antares to the lunar surface. Sure to be popular with our local Texas bidders. Excellent condition.
Included in this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Dr. Mitchell on his personal letterhead stating that, "...[this] 'State of Texas' Flag (4" x 6"), was carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands January 31 to February 9, 1971. It was in lunar orbit for 67 hours. This flag has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic period."
