DescriptionApollo 14 Command Module Flown State Flag of Delaware from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. Offered here is a 6" x 4" cloth Delaware flag that was carried aboard Apollo 14 on its mission to the moon in 1971. Mitchell, along with Alan Shepard, still holds the record for the longest lunar EVA (approximately nine hours, twenty minutes) that took place on this mission. Appropriately, the Delaware state flag has a sailing ship in its coat of arms. Excellent condition.
Included in this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Dr. Mitchell on his personal letterhead stating that, "...[this] 'State of Delaware' Flag (4" x 6"), was carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands January 31 to February 9, 1971. It was in lunar orbit for 67 hours. This flag has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic period."
