Our First President's Family Coat of Arms on a Flag That Orbited the Moon.Apollo 14 Command Module Flown Flag of the District of Columbia from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. Offered here is a 6" x 4" cloth Washington, D.C. flag that was carried aboard Apollo 14 on its mission to the moon. This flag is based on the design of George Washington's coat of arms with three red stars above two red bars, all against a white background. Excellent condition save for one very tiny, light stain at lower left.
Included in this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Dr. Mitchell on his personal letterhead stating that, "...[this] "District of Columbia" Flag (4" x 6"), was carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Kittyhawk on the Apollo 14 mission to the Fra Mauro Highlands January 31 to February 9, 1971. It was in lunar orbit for 67 hours. This flag has been in my personal collection of Apollo memorabilia since that time. Enjoy it in remembrance of that historic period."
