A 1981-dated 24" x 17" (sight size) color lithograph on textured paper numbered at lower left "Artist's Print 9/50" and signed lower right "Lumen Winter", both in pencil. It is also signed along the bottom border, in pencil: "To Kate, Lumen's Daughter/ Best Wishes James Lovell". The printed caption beneath the image of four galloping horses reads: "Steeds of Apollo - the painting by Lumen Martin Winter chosen as the theme of the official insignia for the historic flight Apollo XIII by James Lovell - Fred Haise and Jack Swigert...Thomas Mattingly". This is based on a mural Mr. Lumen (1908-1982) painted for the St. Regis Hotel in New York. Beautifully double matted with an embroidered mission patch and archivally framed to an overall 34" x 20".
The following material is included with the lot and neatly matted on the back of this frame with an engraved plaque: an 11" x 15" sheet bearing several small sketches accomplished by Lumen Winter with accompanying Letter of Authenticity; an illustrated fact sheet about the art; a Letter of Authenticity for the print; and a photo of the Apollo 13 crew with the artist.
