DescriptionApollo 13 Flown Nametag and NASA Logo from Commander James Lovell's PLSS Backpack Directly from His Personal Collection, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 5" x 8" piece of Beta cloth bearing a sewn-on 4" x 4" NASA "meatball" logo and a 2.5" x 1" "J. LOVELL" nametag. This was excised from his personal Portable Life Support System backpack that flew on the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission. He has signed in black ink: "On backpack/ James Lovell" between the attached patches. An incredible piece of history; this piece of cloth would have been on the backpack that Lovell wore on the moon, had they landed as planned. Rarely offered, an amazing opportunity for an astute collector. Excellent.
Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I certify that this nametag was removed from my personal backpack that was on board the Apollo 13 flight. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This nametag is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
