    Ex. Jack Swigert with handwritten provenance

    Apollo 13 Flown MS66 NGC Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number 25, with Silver Bezel and Chain, Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert with His Handwritten Letter of Certification and Transmittal. A stunning 32mm sterling silver medal. The design features the mission insignia depicting the name of the mission, three of Apollo's chariot horses flying toward the Moon, and the slogan "Ex Luna, Scientia" ("from the moon, knowledge"). The reverse features the names of the crewmembers, the modules, Aquarius (lunar) and Odyssey (command), the engraved dates of launch and return, the serial number, and the sterling and Robbins hallmarks. Robbins medallions from the collections of crewmembers of the particular flight are quite desirable to collectors. A beautiful Gem Uncirculated example with rarely-seen handwritten provenance from Swigert himself. Letter with original folds, fine.

    Included with this lot is a 1977-dated handwritten and signed letter of presentation for this medal from Swigert stating, in full: "Dear Freddie, Apollo 13 was a memorable experience for me. And I hope this Medallion which we carried aboard our spacecraft will bring you the same good fortune Apollo 13 did for me. This was intended to be a Christmas gift but the delay was at the jewelers. Please forgive me - and just consider this an early Valentine. Kind wishes. Jack".
