A large Beta cloth bag attached to a plastic tray base; overall dimensions are approximately 12" x 13" x 16" high. There is a NASA/ ILC Industries tag sewn on with the following information: "ITEM HELMET STOWAGE BAG/ PART NO. A6L-502000-09/ SIZE N/A/ SERIAL NO. 061/ SPEC. CD 1011/ CEI NO. 1011A/ CODE IDENT. 74897/ DATE 6/69/ CONTRACT NO. NAS 9-6100" Lovell has written on a nearby flap: "Outer Helmet Storage Bag- Outer Helmet to be Used on Lunar EVA". A great and unusual Apollo 13-flown item. Very fine condition with general light soiling.
This lot includes a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his letterhead stating: "I hereby certify that this Outer Helmet Storage Bag was on board the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This outer helmet storage bag was from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission.
