Apollo 13 Flown Eyeglass Case Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell. This Beta cloth case with a snap closure has a hard plastic liner and a tag sewn to the top of the outside with the following information: "P/N SEB 12100034-203/ S/N 1041". Lovell's surname is written above this. He has certified and signed on the back of the case, "Eyeglass Case Flown Aboard Apollo 13 James Lovell CDR". To protect the astronaut's eyes from the extremely bright and unfiltered sunlight that could enter the windows of the Apollo spacecraft, each astronaut was provided with a pair of sunglasses along with a case of this type for them. Very fine condition with some light soiling and a small hole on the back.

This lot includes a signed Letter of Authenticity from Lovell on his business letterhead stating: "I hereby certify that this eyeglass case was on board Apollo 13. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This eyeglass case is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
