Description

Apollo 13 Flown CSM Lunar Landmark Maps Book Signed by and from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell. This 8.5" x 10.5" book of well over fifty B&W photos of the lunar surface on heavy, slick paper (and several more on standard paper) is bound between two boards with three binder rings. Several of the maps fold out to a larger size and all have various grids and notations printed on them. Lovell has certified and signed on the front cover: "James Lovell Flown". The title, as found on the cover, is "CSM LUNAR LANDMARK MAPS", the Part Number is "SKB 32100082-322", and the Serial Number is "1001". Very fine condition with minor rust staining around the punched holes.

Examples of in-flight humor are to be found in this mission map book. There are two cartoons inserted, likely by the ground crew. One, in color and signed "Matelski '70", pictures two bulls talking about getting some heffers [sic]. The other, black and white and signed "South", pictures astronaut Swigert asking "Is this a dinner flight?". Very desirable additions to this rare and collectible flown item.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
