Description

Apollo 13 Flown American Flag and Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch with Crew-Signed Photo in Framed Display, with Mission Abort Cover. A 5.75" x 4" cloth U.S. flag and a 4" diameter patch by AB Emblem mounted on a 10.75" x 13.75" (sight size) matboard with a 9.25" x 7.25" color crew photo signed: "James Lovell", "Jack Swigert", and "Fred W Haise". This was presented to Dr. William B. Rich as noted beneath the photo: "Flown on Apollo XIII Mission Presented by Fred Haise to William B. Rich". Rich was a publicist and National Education Director for NASA during the period. Framed to an overall 12.5" x 15.5". Included is a signed letter from his son, William A. Rich, attesting to the provenance. Flag has a couple of small areas of glue bleedthrough, the photo and signatures are somewhat faded, overall very good.

Also included in this lot is an Apollo 13 Mission Abort Cover featuring a NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club cachet, postmarked April 14, 1970, at Houston over a 10¢ "First Man on the Moon" stamp. Text has been printed: "Moon Landing Mission Aborted 4-14-70. LM Engine Fired 2:43 A.M. Houston Time for Emergency Return Flight Trajectory". It is signed authentically by "James Lovell" and "Fred Haise" and bears an autopen signature of Jack Swigert. Excellent.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
