    Apollo 13 flown cue card

Apollo 13 Flown Alarm Codes/ Mission Rule No-Go's Quick Reference Cue Card Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 10.25" x 8" heavyweight card printed on both sides, dated March 3 / March 24. The astronauts received intense and thorough training but still relied on these cue cards when events were happening quickly during mission-critical periods. The information on this type of card could literally make the difference between a successful or a failed mission. The "Alarm Codes" side is signed in black ink: "James Lovell/ On board Apollo 13" and lists thirteen computer codes along with definitions and actions required of the crew. The other side lists various potential equipment problems and at what point they will require an abort or "no-go" for landing. In general, mission rules are established to define an action to take when a failure occurs. This particular mission required thinking and acting well beyond any pre-determined mission rules. Rare and desirable. Light soiling, very fine.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that this Alarm Code Card was used on board the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This card is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
