DescriptionApollo 13 Custom-Fitted Communications Earpiece Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert, with LOA. A custom-molded green earpiece of approximately 1.125" x 0.5" x 1" overall. The letter "R" is engraved near the ear tube opening denoting that it was made for his right ear. This was attached to the internal communications system on the spacecraft. Each astronaut's earpiece was specially made for extra comfort on the long mission. It cannot be completely confirmed that this flew on Apollo 13 but we feel that it likely did as it was kept in Swigert's personal collection until his death in 1982. Just imagine the "life or death" communications that he heard through this earpiece. Light wear, excellent.
Included with this lot is a Letter of Authenticity signed by Jack Swigert's sister, Virginia Swigert, certifying "that this Earpiece was personally owned by Jack Swigert and was probably flown" and that it comes directly from his estate.
