DescriptionApollo 12 Crew-Signed Insurance Cover Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Support Crew Member Paul Weitz, Certified and Signed. The three bold signatures, "Charles Conrad Jr." (1930-1999), "Dick Gordon", and "Alan L. Bean", all in black felt-tip, are neatly placed on this Apollo 12 insurance cover, 6.5" x 3.625", featuring the "First Man on the Moon" U.S. airmail stamp (Scott #C76). It was cancelled on the day of launch, November 14, 1969, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The cachet features the Apollo 12 mission insignia with "Yankee Clipper" (the Command Module) and "Intrepid" (the Lunar Module) printed below, along with a Navy Wing insignia. All three members of the crew were Navy pilots, thus the naval theme of the insignia and the ship call signs. Weitz has certified and signed on the verso of the cover: "As a member of the Apollo 12 Support Crew, I was presented this insurance cover by the Prime Crew. Paul Weitz". Excellent condition.
Included with this lot is a signed, handwritten Letter of Certification from Weitz on his personal letterhead stating: "I hereby certify that the Apollo 12 insurance cover presented with this letter bears the authentic signatures of the Apollo 12 Prime Crew. I was a member of the Apollo 12 Support Crew, and was presented this cover by the Prime Crew after their mission. It is from my personal collection of artifacts and has been in my possession since."
