    Description

    "Originally planned to be flown"

Apollo 12 Crew-Signed Cover, Essentially a "Type One" Insurance Cover, Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Charles Conrad, with His Handwritten and Signed Certificate of Authenticity. A philatelic cover with the 10¢ "First Man on the Moon" (Scott #C76) stamp vertically affixed, bearing a pictorial machine cancellation from Kennedy Space Center dated November 14, 1969, the day that Apollo 12 was launched. The color cachet features the mission insignia with "Yankee Clipper" and "Intrepid" below to either side of a set of Navy wings (it was an all-Navy crew). It has been boldly signed in black felt tip: "Charles Conrad", "Dick Gordon", and "Alan L Bean". The stamp hides small portions of the Conrad and Gordon signatures as is typical. This was one of a group of covers intended to fly with the crew. Excellent.

Included with this lot is a handwritten and signed COA from Conrad on his notecard reading, in full: "This Apollo XII crew cover was signed by the entire Apollo XII crew just days before our launch to the moon on November 14, 1969. They were originally planned to be flown on the flight but the crew collectively agreed not to fly them. The cover is one from my personal collection. Charles Conrad Jr. Commander, Apollo XII."
