DescriptionApollo 12 Crew Original Painting by NASA Staff Artist Raymond Bruneau. A 20" x 16" painting on illustration board featuring bust portraits of Alan Bean, Charles Conrad, and Richard Gordon in their white spacesuits, signed at lower right: "R. Bruneau Nov. 69". A very high quality painting suitable for framing and display. General light soiling, fine. From the family collection of the late Tom McFadden.
The story of Bruneau's career as an artist is quite interesting and inspirational. When he was born (1933), his arms were paralyzed. He was immediately put into a cast but when he came out, his arms were crooked. His right hand couldn't close and his left hand couldn't open. He had a passion for art, though, and learned to work around his handicap. Bruneau was hired as an illustrator at Langley Research Center in 1959, and then moved to Houston in 1962. He was one of the last full-time NASA illustrators and spent twenty-eight years with the agency. He died in 2009.
