Description

    From Armstrong's Inflight Coverall Garment

Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong Training-Used Beta Cloth Boots (Pair) with Original Tagging. An amazing offering. This right/ left pair of Beta cloth boots was part of the four piece inflight coverall garment that the Apollo astronauts wore during their mission for comfort while in the command module. Though not flown, these were almost certainly worn by Armstrong during the training process based on both the date of manufacture and the general light wear and the accumulated material on the Velcro. They each have dual snap closures and a 3.5" diameter area of Velcro on the bottom. Toe to heel measurement is 10.25" and sole to top is 9.75". There is a tag sewn in each with the following information: "Boot Assy. R. H. (L. H.)/ BW-1062-002/ Size: 9 S/N: 1129/ Subject: Armstrong/ Contract No.: NAS 9-8309/ Date of Mfg.: 3-6-69/ Mfg. By: B. Welson Co." Note that part of each label (including the "Armstrong" name) has been marked out with black ink but the information beneath is clearly visible in strong light. An extremely rare item worthy of the finest collections. Extremely fine with only light wear and soiling.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
