Description

Apollo 11 Manned Flight Awareness Book on Microfilm in Canister. This small canister, 1" long x 0.5" diameter, contains a strip of microfilm picturing all twenty pages of this NASA booklet. There is photographic and written proof that one such canister flew with the Apollo 15 crew to the surface of the moon (see images below). It is rumored that one of these also flew on Apollo 13 and Apollo 14. Included with this rare and interesting item is an archive of explanatory material. Excellent condition, microfilm not examined out of container.

The Jim Irwin letter copy included with this lot states that another copy of this microfilm was deposited "...on the surface of the moon during the Apollo 15 mission." and that it "...contain[s] the names of the Manned Flight Awareness honorees and coordinators from the beginning of the program through Apollo 11, representing those outstanding employees who contributed to man's first landing on the moon."
