Description

Apollo 11 Lunar Module Flown LM G and N Dictionary "Earth Vectors - 3 & 4" Page Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Certified and Signed, with Signed LOA. A 5.5" x 8" page, printed on cardstock and three-hole punched, from the "LM G and N Dictionary," P/N "SKB32100074-361" and S/N "1001" (a copy of the front cover of this book is included with the lot). This page is signed on the recto: "Carried in Eagle to the Lunar/ Surface on Apollo XI/ Buzz Aldrin" and on the verso: "Buzz Aldrin". Excellent condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.

Included with this LM flown page is a detailed signed Letter of Authenticity on Aldrin's personal letterhead stating, in full: "Accompanying this letter is a sheet labeled EARTH VECTORS - 3 and 4 from the Apollo 11 LM G and N Dictionary, Part No. SKB32100074-361, S/N 1001. The dictionary was carried to the Moon on the flight of Apollo 11 during July 16 to 24, 1969. Then the entire Guidance and Navigation (G and N) Dictionary, including this sheet, was taken to the surface of the Moon in Lunar Module Eagle during the first lunar landing on July 20, 1969.
"Side 3 has the Earth half-unit vectors listed at 30 minute intervals starting at 100 hours GET or Ground Elapsed Time. These vectors have an X, Y, and Z component and could be used to assist alignment of our IMU or Inertial Measurement Unit. The GET times on this sheet begin during the period from when Neil Armstrong and I had undocked Eagle from Columbia and continue through the lunar descent, lunar landing, lunar stay, return to lunar orbit, and then rendezvous with Columbia.
"Side 4 has the remaining half-unit vectors up until 130 hours GET. These vectors were one of our most detailed time based references available while we were in the LM. Neil and I used this sheet verify the performance of the IMU while on the Moon and in flight. A sheet numbered Planet Vectors 1 and 2 with a sheet numbered Sun Vectors - 5 were part of this section to assist our navigation.
"The complete dictionary was a vital document to the success of our mission. It not only provided definitions of computer codes, but contained detailed information on steps required to operate flight equipment associated with the first lunar landing.
"The sheet has been in my private collection since 1969. I have written along the bottom edge of side 3: 'Carried in EAGLE to the lunar surface on Apollo XI' and signed that side. I have also signed the bottom of side 4. Additionally, a copy of the cover of the dictionary is enclosed."
