Description

Apollo 11 Flown American Flag Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, with LOA. A 6" x 4.25" cloth U.S. flag that flew aboard the historic first manned lunar landing mission with Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, July 16-24, 1969. This was gifted by Aldrin to his stepson from his second marriage. Flown items from this mission are always in demand. Flag excellent.

Included with this lot is a Letter of Authenticity signed by David Van Zile; it reads in full: "This letter will serve as my sworn statement that this U.S. flown flag was indeed flown to the moon aboard Apollo 11 by my stepfather, Col. Edwin E. (Buzz) Aldrin, Jr. During the time I resided with Buzz, my stepfather, he gave me a number of space memorabilia items from his personal collection. He also gave a number of items to my grandmother, Ada Handelsman, including flown items. My grandmother gave her collection to me prior to her passing. This letter will serve to confirm that Col. Edwin E. (Buzz) Aldrin Jr. met my mother, Beverly Van Zile, in 1974, in Woodland Hills, CA. They were married in 1975. I lived at home with them while attending college at U.C.L.A. I have direct knowledge of this fact because Buzz told me the flag was flown to the moon with him on Apollo 11. The flag was given to me directly by Buzz."
