    Ex. Buzz Aldrin

Apollo 11 Crew: Training-Used Launch Operations Checklist Page Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Certified and Signed. A 5.5" x 8" page numbered 1--9/1-10, printed on cardstock and three-hole punched, from the "Launch Operations Checklist Simulator Copy," P/N "SKB32100080-306" (a copy of the front cover of this book is included with the lot). Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed typed Letter of Certification in which Aldrin describes this item, in part: "Accompanying this letter is a page numbered 1-9 and 1-10 from the CSM 107 (Apollo 11) Launch Operations Checklist, SKB32100080-306. It was part of the complete manual that was used in the Command Module Apollo Mission Simulator at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. The page is from Section 1 titled: Liftoff Configuration. The entire checklist, including this actual sheet, was used by all three Apollo 11 crew members: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and myself. We referred to this section every time we performed a launch simulation. All of the control panel switches, dials, and knobs had to be set to the liftoff settings defined in this section. Side 1-9 has all the settings required for Panels 16, 100, 101, and 122. Panel 16 was next to my rendezvous window and I would use this sheet for a quick check of those settings. Panels 100 and 122 were in the Lower Equipment Bay, while Panel 101 was in the Aft Compartment. Those last three panels were usually pre-set for use on a launch sim. Side 1-10 has panel 162, 163, 180, 225, 226, and 250 settings. These 6 panels were distributed throughout the Lower Equipment Bay and Aft Compartment and usually pre-set. The other listed panels, 227 and 229, were just to my right while seated at my crew couch, and I would confirm those settings. It was important to rehearse the flow of this activity in the simulator. It was an excellent learning device and the checklist was an important tool to insure our correct performance. This training was a key step which enabled our flight to make the first manned lunar landing on July 20, 1969. I kept the checklist after our mission as a reminder of the all the training that took place back in 1969. I have written on page 1-9: 'Used in training for Apollo XI' and signed that page."
