Apollo 11: Australian Tracking Station Covers (Two) Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. Both are Airmail covers with a stamped address in Edwardstown, South Australia. As follows.
Woomera: The Island Lagoon Tracking Station (Deep Space Station 41). Bears stamped satellite dish and "Apollo Three Man Space Craft" images. Cancelled at Woomera on launch day, July 16, 1969. This was the first deep space station established outside the U.S.
Carnarvon: Bears three stamps including "OTC (A) Satellite Earth Station" (signed), "Apollo Three Man Space Craft", and "First Man On The Moon/ 0256:20 G.M.T. July 21, 1969". Cancelled at Carnarvon on July 17, 1969. This was a very important station providing extensive support for the Project Apollo moon missions. Because of its geographical position, it was used to uplink the Trans-lunar injection (TLI) command to the Apollo spacecraft and was the prime link for the last hours of re-entry to Earth.
Two great covers for the specialist collector. Very fine. Sealed in numbered archival sleeves, CAG 1002323-023, & 1002323-024. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
