Apollo 10 Lunar Module Model on a Plaque Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot John Young, Certified and Signed. A detailed, gold-colored plastic and metal scale model of the Apollo lunar module with an overall size of 9.25" x 9" x 6.5" tall. It has been mounted (removable) to an 18" x 12" x 0.75" wooden base along with an unflown embroidered mission insignia patch and a brass plate, 5.25" x 1.75", with the engraved text:
    MAY 22, 1969

This record for the closest approach to the moon, 8.4 miles, didn't last very long. On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 actually landed on the moon. It couldn't have been accomplished though without Apollo 10's extremely successful "dress rehearsal" flight with its all-veteran crew of Thomas Stafford, John Young, and Gene Cernan. This was likely presented to Young by Grumman, the LM manufacturer. Extremely fine condition with apparently one tiny piece missing from the model.

On the wooden base, John Young has written in silver: "From My Personal Collection. John Young".

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
