Description

"Just a small remembrance of our flight"

Apollo 10 Flown American Flag on Certificate Signed by Mission Lunar Module Pilot Gene Cernan and Presented to His Hometown Mayor. A 6.25" x 3.75" cloth U.S. flag that flew on this important "dress rehearsal" for the Apollo 11 mission. It is mounted onto a 10" x 12" cardstock certificate with the printed text, "This Flag Traveled on Apollo X with the first LM to the Moon/ APOLLO X/ May 18-26, 1969/ Stafford - Young - Cernan". The signatures of Tom Stafford and John Young are both autopens. Gene Cernan has authentically signed "Gene Cernan" in ballpoint with an added inscription beneath to the then-mayor of Bellwood, Illinois: "To Mayor Davis - Just/ a Small remembrance of/ our flight - Best Wishes/ Gene". Though Gene Cernan was born in Chicago, he was raised in the town of Bellwood, Illinois. Mayor Sigel C. Davis welcomed the town's favorite son back to the area in late June 1969 with a function attended by 25,000 proud area citizens. Not common. This is the first Apollo 10 American flag of this size Heritage has ever offered. Only very light toning on the certificate and the flag exhibits none of the common glue bleedthrough. Overall excellent.
