The Moon as Painted by a Man who Walked There.

Alan Bean Original Painting "Apollo Moon" with His Handwritten Provenance. Acrylic on masonite, 10" x 13.5" sight size, simply but elegantly matted and framed to 16" x 19.5", signed at right below the image "Alan Bean ©1995". Who better to paint an image of the moon but one of the twelve humans that actually walked on it? Bean was the fourth man to claim that honor on November 19, 1969, as the lunar module pilot for Apollo 12. He later spent fifty-nine days in space as commander of the Skylab II (SL-3) mission, July 28 - September 25, 1973. Bean retired from NASA in 1981 in order to devote his full time to art. In Time-Life's three volume set by Andrew Chaikin, A Man on the Moon, Bean is shown with this painting behind him. Excellent condition.

This beautiful painting is accompanied by Bean's handwritten and signed description of the painting, in full: "I painted this study of our moon a number of years ago in a search to record it in a way that meant more to me. This is a more artistic Moon, a more beautiful Moon, but the same Moon we were headed for as we left earth and began our 239,000 mile flight. We artists do things like this... I don't know why... But hopefully the world is a more interesting place for it. Alan Bean January 15 1999".
