    Description

The map Arthur C. Clarke's lunar explorers used for their "Journey by Earthlight"

1960 First Edition "Lunar Rays" Map: Gigantic United States Geological Survey "Engineer Special Study of the Surface of the Moon" Wall Map. One of the earliest, rarest, and most displayable such maps, considered a landmark in the history of moon mapping. This example is the first edition, dated July 1960, the earliest we have encountered in our research as most are the second edition, dated 1961. 56" x 38", printed by Army Map Service, Corps of Engineers. Made in preparation for the Apollo moon landings, this was originally prepared by the scientists Robert J. Hackman and Arnold C. Mason in 1960 based on photographs taken at Lick Observatory, San Jose, California. Don't miss out on this! Stored folded, very fine.
