"Leica" 35mm Rangefinder Camera, Serial #257081, with Case. No one can own the famous Leica that Patnesky used from 1962 until his retirement from NASA. You know- the one that was found in a closet at NASA and nobody else wanted to use, the one that was held together by a rubber band after being dropped on an astronaut training trip, the one that flew into space on STS-69 as a tribute to him, the one that became an integral part of him, the one he took thousands of amazing photos with. That one is in a museum. We have an interesting substitute from his personal collection. It appears to be a beautiful pre-war gold-finished Leica with a Leitz Elmar 50mm f3.5 lens, made in Wetzlar by Ernst Leitz. One tiny problem- it's a counterfeit! Actually this is a model that Leica never made and was probably fabricated in the Zorki factory in Russia. We feel that he either picked it up on a European trip or it was given to him by a friend. It was part of his collection and that should mean a lot to a space or camera collector. Untested, in good used condition with brown leather case. Great for display. From the personal collection of longtime NASA photojournalist Andrew "Pat" Patnesky.
