Official world record claims for Sputnik 1, the first-ever artificial Earth satellite and the trigger for the "Space Race"

Soviet Original Bound Book: "File on Engineering and Scientific Achievements and Records Made by the First Artificial Earth Satellite" from the Library of Soviet Engineer Oleg Ivanovsky. "October 4, 1957 - January 4, 1958". Published at Moscow in 1972. This 9" x 12" book is lavishly bound in maroon with gilt titles and is printed in English. Inside are nine separate signed statements and reports backing up the three absolute world record claims to the International Aero Federation (FAI): (1) Maximum mass delivered to an orbit of an artificial earth satellite; (2) Duration of the satellite's active orbital life; and (3) Maximum radial distance from the Earth's surface. These claims are backed up across several detailed statements and technical reports, each signed by one or more individuals intimately related to the Sputnik design and launch, as follows: six are signed by Ivan G. Borisenko, Sports Commissar of USSR Aero Sports Foundation; two each by Y. S. Makarov, Chief of Control Laboratory and Vladimir V. Vorshev, Chief of Telemetering Measurement Laboratory; and one each by G. G. Boldyrev, Engineer, A. I. Yefremov, Engineer, and A. A. Shustov, Chief of Radio Laboratory. After these signed statements are four original B&W glossy photos, each laid down to a separate page, three of which show the internal workings of the satellite. There is not likely any other official Soviet Sputnik technical document such as this available on the market. Don't miss out on this important piece of Space history. Excellent.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
