Soviet 1970 Visit: Alexei Nikolayevich Kosygin's Personal Business Card Presented to Neil Armstrong Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, CAG Certified. Measures 4.5" x 2.75". Kosygin was Premier of the Soviet Union from 1964 to 1980, and his business card includes his seat upon the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The card was given to Armstrong circa May-June 1970 during his visit to the Soviet Union, just ten months after his moon landing. Excellent. Sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. CAG 1002093-013. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.

Despite having beat the Russians in the Space Race to the moon, Armstrong was still warmly welcomed and celebrated during his visit. After five days in Leningrad, he was given permission to visit Moscow. At the Kremlin, he met with Premier Alexei N. Kosygin for an hour. On behalf of President Nixon, Neil presented him with some chips of a Moon rock and a small Soviet flag that had been carried aboard Apollo 11, gifts that prompted Kosygin to lament, "What you have seen is something I'll never see," to which Armstrong replied, "Progress is so rapid, you may be surprised." The sixty-six-year-old Kosygin was insistent, perhaps because he knew far too well the multitude of problems, big and small, that had been keeping the Soviet lunar program so far behind the American: "I am convinced of my ability to predict the spread of human progress, and I still don't think I'll get to the Moon." "Kosygin shook his finger at me and said, If our two countries are involved in armed conflict, it's not going to be our fault." (Hansen, James R.. First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong pp. 582-583. Simon & Schuster. Kindle Edition.)
