DescriptionApollo 16 Flown Larger-Size American Flag Directly from the John W. Young Collection, with Letter of Certification. A 11.5" x 8" cloth U.S. flag that flew to the moon on the Apollo 16 mission with John Young, Charlie Duke, and Ken Mattingly. Rare and desirable in this size, highly displayable. Storage folds, otherwise excellent.
Included with this lot is a Letter of Certification signed by Young's widow, Susy Young. It reads, in full: "I hereby certify that the flag of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA that accompanies this letter was flown to the Moon aboard the Apollo 16 mission April 16-27, 1972. It has been a part of John W. Young's personal collection since returning from the mission. The flag has a holographic tamper-proof label, #1733183, to ensure authenticity, that will display a residual honeycomb design without number if removed."
