North American X-15: NASA U.S. Air Force Rocket-Powered Aircraft Model, 1/15 Scale (40" Long), Tail Number 66671. An extremely impressive fiberglass model of the legendary hypersonic plane by North American Aviation, measuring 40" nose to tail, 18" across the wings, and 16" high while on its custom metal cradle stand. This was built from molds originally created by noted special effects designer Gene Young. The decals are perfectly accurate. This is an attention-grabbing model and would look great in your den or office.

Included is a piece of NASA gear that is worthy of its own lot. The consignor has been storing this model in a gigantic 50" x 14.5" x 25" deluxe case with a NASA Contract sticker on it, NAS9-1100, representing equipment made by Grumman for the lunar module. There is a pressure valve release by the handle and a "Mission Essential" label on the top. We wonder what its original use could have been. Model very fine, case shows wear.

The X-15 was flown 199 times between 1959 and 1968 by twelve different pilots; it still holds the official world record for the highest speed ever recorded by a manned, powered aircraft (4,520 mph / Mach 6.72). Eight pilots earned their Astronaut Wings by flying the X-15 at an altitude exceeding fifty miles and data gathered on these test flights was invaluable in future aircraft and spacecraft design.
